Stuart Reid named new BIBA Deputy Chairman

The announcement, made at BIBA's conference in Manchester by Steve White, BIBA's Chief Executive, follows confirmation that the current Deputy Chairman, Brendan McManus, outgoing CEO of UK Retail at Arthur J Gallagher, has stepped down from the position.

Stuart said: “I was delighted to originally be selected as Chair of the Larger Brokers’ Advisory Board but I will now take on the BIBA Deputy Chairman’s role with great honour and enthusiasm. It is an important time for brokers and they need a strong voice. The new governance structure at BIBA has certainly ensured that we have that and I am pleased to be a part of it.”

Peter Blanc, CEO, UK Retail, Arthur J Gallagher, will replace Stuart as the Chair of the Larger Brokers' Advisory Board and join the main BIBA Board as the voice of larger BIBA members.

Peter said: “It is a privilege to take over as Chairman of the Larger Brokers’ Advisory Board and join the main BIBA Board. The advisory board will give members a simple route into BIBA and as its Chairman, I will passionately promote those issues at Board level.”

Steve made the announcement alongside confirmation of the new BIBA Board. He told delegates: “following an extensive consultation exercise, BIBA members voted overwhelmingly for changes to our governance which better reflects the way in which insurance intermediaries are now segmented.”

Full details of the advisory boards and their composition can be found on the BIBA website

Lord Hunt, BIBA’s Chairman, said: “I am delighted that Stuart will become my deputy, his appointment, along with the changes to the Board, put BIBA in a very strong position. Brendan has played a key role in driving forward the changes at BIBA during the last year, not least his role in leading the segmentation work stream of the strategic review and I thank him for his support.”

Brendan concluded: "Now is the right time for me to step down. I've been in place for five years and seen through the segmentation work stream of BIBA's strategic review. I leave knowing that there is a strong and fully representative governance structure in place to represent members at all levels and that reflects broking in the 21st century.”

Mike Bruce, Chief Executive of Bluefin, commented: “My congratulations go to Stuart on being appointed Deputy Chairman of BIBA. He works tirelessly to campaign and raise awareness of issues affecting brokers and as such it is fitting that he has been chosen for this role.”
